Jewish writing that nourishes mind, heart, & soul

Invisible Tribe

A remarkable, much-needed book that has been seven years (and my entire lifetime) in the making.

An illustrated story collection that offers encouragement, insights, and fun to Jewish children ages 8-13 who are coping with the loss of a parent.

Granting the gift of inclusion to our community’s youngest, most misunderstood and marginalized members.

Invisible Tribe

An important resource for bereaved children, their surviving parent, teachers, rebbis, social workers, therapists, and family friends or neighbors who want to support yesomim with greater sensitivity.

Coming soon to Jewish bookstores,
Menucha Publishers and Amazon.

I’m writing this on the 4th of Sivan, my father’s yahrzheit. I didn’t plan it that way but there is no more fitting time. It was my father’s passing that put my life on fast-forward, got me thinking about things that no one else my age was contemplating, and ultimately enabled me to write Invisible Tribe — the book that I wish had been around when I was a kid. I offer it with love to all the children (and grown children) who lost a parent (or both) when they were young. Wishing us and the entire Jewish People the ultimate consolation and the great, big family reunion that we are all waiting for.

"As a widow and mother of orphaned children, I found Sara Miriam Gross’s book an invaluable resource for both parents and children alike. Invisible Tribe gives a voice and identity to those children who, through no fault of their own, often feel embarrassed and ashamed of their status. Thank you Sara Miriam for the amusing and very poignant tales that open our eyes and hearts to the day to day hardships of our orphans, as well as their daily triumphs. They helped me develop an extra dose of sensitivity even when dealing with my own children....."

"As a remarried widow and mother of four kids who have lost their father, I have seen the doubt, fear, and uncertainty my kids faced with this nisayon. Unprepared as I was to raise orphans, and having grown up in a dual parent home, I had to find ways to explain to the kids what they were feeling and that they weren’t alone. After reading this manuscript my heart leapt with joy imagining how many other kids will feel calmer after reading these inspirational chapters. This is an incredible book that teaches children how to work on themselves and build themselves after their devastating loss...."

"The Torah exhorts us to pay special attention to the יתום and the אלמנה, to treat them with great sensitivity and compassion, and to provide chizuk and assistance whenever necessary. It is a brachah for Klal Yisroel that Mrs. Sara Miriam Gross has written Invisible Tribe, a book dedicated to the יתומים in our society. I believe that the book will also serve another extremely vital purpose, which is, to alert the community to the sad fact that there are יתומים among us. Because of their special circumstances, the יתומים may become silent, and remain almost unnoticed. This book gives them a voice. This should be on the bookshelf of every yeshivah, Beis Yaakov, and shul. It is a much-needed gift to our generation....."
